Chest J. Metz, 98

Chester J. Metz, 98, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Vancrest of Hicksville. Chet was born October 2, 1924, in Edgerton, Ohio, son of the late Chester and Lydia (Sleesman) Metz. He attended Edgerton High School before leaving to enlist in the United States Air Force during World War II, serving from December 4, 1942, until his honorable discharge on January 10, 1946. Chet married Helen L. Osmun on January 25, 1947, and she preceded him in death on November 1, 2016. Along with his wife, he owned and operated the Redwood Motel in Hicksville for over 33 years, retiring in 1990. Chet also co-managed the West & Metz Shell Gas Station in Hicksville for nearly 30 years with his brother-in-law. He was a member of the Hicksville American Legion Post 223 for over 65 years and the Hickory Hills Golf Course for over 50 years. Chet loved to golf and could be found on the course five or six times a week. He was also an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan.

Chet is survived by his son, James Metz of Hicksville; a granddaughter, Ollie (Frank) Rindos of Alpharetta, Georgia; two great-grandchildren, Grant Rindos and Faith Rindos of Alpharetta, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews. Chet was preceded in death by his parents; a step-mother, Marie; his beloved wife of nearly 70 years, Helen; two brothers; one half-brother; and a half-sister.

Visitation for Chester J. Metz will be held Thursday, June 1, 2023, from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio 43526. Private interment will take place in Six Corners Cemetery, Hicksville.
