Christine J. Gerig, 92

Christine J. Gerig, 92, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and formerly of Grabill, Indiana, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Fort Wayne.  Christine was born April 8, 1930, in Bluffton, Ohio, daughter of the late Rev. Armin and Elizabeth (Steiner) Steiner.  She was a 1948 graduate of Leo High School and attended Fort Wayne Bible College.  Christine married Paul R. Gerig on August 20, 1949, in Grabill Missionary Church, Grabill, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on October 29, 2008.  After attending college for a year, Christine went to work for International Harvester for a time, before becoming a stay-at-home wife, supporting her growing family.  She then started a business called Gerig Crafts, creating plaques sold in Christian bookstores, both locally and around the country.  Christine was an active member of Grabill Missionary Church, serving as both a Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, and on various church committees.  She was also very active in helping establish the Grabill Branch Library.  Christine loved to share with others and enjoyed greeting at the Anchor Room Christian bookstore in Fort Wayne and playing piano for residents of local nursing homes.  In her younger years, she enjoyed vacationing in Canada with her family, and in her later years reading and crafting.  Christine was a creative person, and wrote multiple unpublished children’s books, and even created a game called “Ship Shape”.

Christine is survived by her two sons, Mark (Michelle) Gerig of Marion, Indiana, and Jim (Jill) Gerig of Hicksville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Brandon (Martha) Gerig of Marquette, Michigan, Laurén (Jon) Brady of Charlotte, Michigan, Brooke (Caleb) Lloyd of Fallon, Nevada, and Paige (Tony) Lovett of Columbus, Ohio; and two great-grandchildren, Georgia and Margaux Gerig.  Christine was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Paul R. Gerig; two brothers, Gaius “Gus” Steiner and John Steiner; and one sister, Virginia Witmer.

Visitation for Christine J. Gerig will be held Thursday, August 4, 2022, from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. at Grabill Missionary Church, 13637 State Street Grabill, Indiana 46741.  Funeral services will immediately follow in the church starting at 11:00 A.M. in the church with Pastor Scott Davis officiating.  Interment will follow in Leo Cemetery, Leo, Indiana.  Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio 43526.
