Clara C. Ankney, 102

Clara C. Ankney, 102 years, of Sherwood passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017 in her home with her family by her side. Clara was born December 8, 1914 in Defiance County, Ohio, the daughter of the late George and Rose (Isch) Chamberlin. She married Oney Ankney on December 15, 1932 and he preceded her in death in 1964. Clara was a farmer for her whole life beginning when she was a child after her father passed away. Along with farming, she worked as a janitor for the Defiance County Courthouse and also as a care giver for many elderly ladies. Clara was a member at St. John Lutheran Church in Sherwood. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, gardening, and traveling to visit friends and family.

Surviving are her five children, Cathren Lee of Clayton, Georgia, Helen Coombs of Sherwood, Ohio, Betty George of Mark Center, Ohio, June (Michael) Davis of Maumee, Ohio, and Rueben (Ati) Ankney of Malaysia; 19 Grandchildren; 28 Great-Grandchildren, and 31 Great-Great-Grandchildren. Clara was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Kenneth Ankney and Dennis Ankney; one daughter, Emma Ankney; one grandson, Homer Caryer; three Great-Grandchildren, three brothers, Robert Chamberlin, Paul Chamberlin, and George “Jack” Chamberlin; three sisters, Margaret Liberator, Ida Macabe, and Florence Chamberlin.

Graveside funeral services for Clara C. Ankney will be held Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Sherwood Cemetery, with Pastor Eric Moquin officiating. Services are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, Sherwood.
