Crash Claims Bryan Woman’ s Life

A two-vehicle col­li­sion at the Williams-Fulton County line north of West Unity on Wednes­day has claimed the life of a Bryan woman.

52 year old Jean Rych­ener [RICK-NER] of Bryan, was dri­ving east on U.S. 20, as 70 year old Kathaleen Schmitt of Alvord­ton [ALL-VORD-TON], was dri­ving west.

Rych­ener lost con­trol of her vehi­cle on the snow-covered road, crossed over the cen­ter line, and crashed into Schmitt’s vehi­cle head-on.

Rych­ener and a pas­sen­ger, 32 year old Jer­mey Nieto of Ham­ler, were taken to the Ful­ton County Health Cen­ter in Wauseon. Rych­ener died shortly after arrival there. Nieto was trans­ferred to the Uni­ver­sity of Toledo Med­ical Cen­ter.

Rychener’s other pas­sen­ger, 27 year old Matthew Gray of Defi­ance, was taken in crit­i­cal con­di­tion to Toledo Hos­pi­tal.

Schmitt and her pas­sen­ger, 64 year old Steve Plum­mer, were also taken to the Ful­ton County Health Cen­ter, then trans­ferred to UTMC.

The acci­dent remains under inves­ti­ga­tion today.
