Darlene Mae Overmyer, 77

Darlene Mae Overmyer, 77 years of Defiance, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 5, 2023, in her home, with her family at her side. Darlene was born April 12, 1946, in Lima, Ohio, the daughter of the late Charles Mack and Angeline Mae (Benedetto) Meeker. Darlene graduated from Cridersville High School with the class of 1964. She married Lavern Kill on February 20, 1965, and he preceded her in death on August 24, 1978. Darlene then married Terry, also known as Mike Overmyer on October 10, 1980, and he preceded her in death on March 29, 2012. A devoted homemaker, Darlene was a loving mother and grandmother. Darlene had worked as a cook at Kissner’s Restaurant. She was a former member of the Ney Church of God, but more recently was a member of Defiance Christian Church. Darlene had a love for being an artist. She also enjoyed gardening and was an avid bird watcher. Darlene also was known to throw her line in the water and catch some fish.

Surviving are her children, Barbara Schmitmeyer of Saint Marys, Ohio, Theresa (Jim Elston) Kill of Defiance and Andrew (Michelle) Kill of Rainier, Washington; three stepchildren, Donald (Tina Saylor) Overmyer of Bowling Green, Ohio, Tammy (Keith) Shultz of Eaton, Ohio and Anna Perry of Ohio City, Ohio; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Lavern, and Terry; one grandson, Cody Shultz; one brother, Charles Meeker.

A Celebration of Life for Darlene Overmyer will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at Defiance Christian Church, 955 Stanley Road, Defiance with Pastor Mike Hasselbring officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the church. Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, Bryan.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions be made to Community Health Professionals Hospice.
