David J. Cole, 76

David J. Cole, 76, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, August 27, 2023, at his residence.  David was born February 11, 1947, in Hicksville, Ohio, the son of the late Darrell J. and Lena Rose (Pearson) Cole.  After graduating from Hicksville High School in 1966, David enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving from November 1966, until his honorable discharge in November 1970.  Upon returning from his time in the service, he continued his education at ITT – Fort Wayne, obtaining his associate degree in electrical engineering.  David married Susan A. Gillen on February 11, 1983, in Paulding, Ohio, and she survives.  David ran the Surplus Supplies store in Hicksville for 20 years, retiring in 2018.  Prior to running the store, he worked as an electrical engineer at ETA Engineering in Kendallville, Indiana, and in electrical maintenance at Dietrich Industries.  David enjoyed his ham radio and was a member of the Antique Radio Club.  He was also a member of the Hicksville American Legion Post 223 and Hicksville Eagles Aerie 2556.  David also enjoyed working outdoors, be it in his own lawn or while digging ponds and reservoirs with John McCullah Excavating.

David is survived by his wife, Susan of Hicksville; three children, Dee Jay (Christen) Cole of Junction City, Kansas, LenaRose (Cort) Jensen of Blair, Nebraska, and Dustin (Billie Jo Moore) Cole of Hicksville; eight grandchildren, Sidney Cole, Jayden Cole, Kylie Cole, Kenner Jensen, Kailynn Jensen, Aiden Cole, Karson Crites, and Hunter Cole; one great-granddaughter, Debra Jay Cole; four siblings, Daniel J. Cole of New York, New York, Diane J. (Les) Smith of Waterville, Ohio, Dawn J. (Randy) Bassett) of Hicksville, and Debra J. (Jim) Ross of Whitehouse, Ohio.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services for David J. Cole will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville, with Pastor Daniel J. Cole officiating.  Miliary rites will be accorded by the combined honor detail from the Hicksville American Legion Post 223, Farmer American Legion Post 137, and Sherwood VFW Post 5665.  Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio 43526.
