Action was taken Wednesday afternoon by Defiance City Board of Education concerning another phase of the construction project. In addition, there was discussion about solar energy options at the site. The board approved the guaranteed maximum price of 1.8 million dollars for technology and communications for the grades 6-12 building project. The proposed date of completion of the new building is Dec. 22, 2017. Kraig Beilharz of Beilharz Architects was also on hand to discuss potential solar energy options for the site if the board was interested in that avenue, over the current geothermal option. He and superintendent Mike Struble have met with two solar energy companies. An energy performance analysis of the building could be conducted to give administrators an idea of any potential energy cost savings.
