Many will be commemorating the events of 9/11 today with memorial events, and for the third year in a row Defiance will host the Tunnel to Towers 5K run and walk on Saturday. The Defiance race benefits the First Responder Charity Fund, which provides families of first responders with gas cards and cash for meals when their first responder loved one is having a long term hospital stay, as well as contributing to Building for America’s Bravest, which builds custom homes for badly injured soldiers. The Defiance County firefighters run the race and named to commemorate Stephen Siller, a New York City fireman who ran all the way from the Brooklyn Bridge Tunnel to the burning World Trade Center on the morning of September 11, where he sacrificed his life. The race begins at 8:46, the time the first plane struck the first tower. You can register the morning of the run for 25 dollars.
