In Defiance, city employee overtime costs topped $550,000 last year with the police and fire departments accounting for more than two-thirds of that expense. The Crescent News reports that city records indicate that $201,302 went for fire department overtime costs, and $156,194 was paid for police overtime… 64.3 percent of the total amount paid by the city. The streets department came in third, at $49,383 in overtime during 2014. Other overtime figures in 2014 include: water distribution, $23,638; cemetery, $17,106; parks, $10,597; utilities billing office, $6,719; buildings and lands, $2,360; and engineering, $2,351.
