Diane Louise Drewes (Short) succumbed to COVID-19 on Monday, January 18th 2021 at the age of 75 at the CHP Hospice Center in Defiance, Ohio. Born to Samuel and Rebecca Short on November 29, 1945, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Diane joined the Air Force after graduating high school in Alabama and served during the Vietnam War. While stationed on the east coast she met her husband of 40 years, Larry Drewes, who preceded her in death in 2010. Together they had 4 children: Corby (Roberta) Drewes, Canton, Ohio; Laura (Ken) Brown, Wauseon, Ohio; Georgia (JD) Schnitkey, Wauseon, Ohio; and Damon (Lindsay) Drewes, Wauseon, Ohio. In addition to raising 4 children, Diane was blessed with 12 grandchildren, one of whom was waiting for her in heaven.
Diane was a dedicated mother and grandmother, always putting their needs before her own. She loved watching her kids and grandkids participate in school activities and sports and was always the loudest and proudest fan in the crowd. Her friends knew her as a fun-loving, kind-hearted person who genuinely cared about their well-being. While residing at Fountain Park Assisted Living in Bryan, Ohio she was elected Resident Council President and fiercely advocated for her fellow residents and friends.
Diane had an inner strength that carried her through life. Her stubborn persistence allowed her to persevere through many adversities and trying circumstances. A fighter until the end, she can finally rest and be at peace knowing that her work here is done. She will be forever loved and missed.
A memorial service will be planned at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent in care of Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home, 219 S. Fulton St., Wauseon, Ohio 43567, to later be distributed to Fountain Park Assisted Living and CHP Defiance Inpatient Hospice. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.grisierfh.com.
