Donal L. Wonderly, 94, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Vancrest of Hicksville. Donal was born July 14, 1929, in Hicksville, son of the late Lloyd E. and Ila J. (Sholl) Wonderly. He was a 1947 graduate of Hicksville High School. Donal married Betty K. Schuller on December 3, 1949, in Hicksville, and they enjoyed 73 years of marriage until her passing on December 20, 2022. In Donal’s working years, he owned and operated Wonderly Tile Company and farmed. He also ran a freight delivery service, and worked for several area factories, including International Harvester, Dotco, and Weatherhead. Donal was a devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Hicksville; at one time he was also active in the Hicksville Development Corporation. Donal enjoyed tinkering in his barn, and singing with the Barbershop Choir, Trinity United Methodist Church Choir, and the Wonderly Quartet.
Donal is survived by his five children, Pamela Diehl of Hicksville, Elizabeth “Jane” Craig of Pomeroy, Ohio, Catherine (Gary) Bradshaw of Hicksville, Victor (Kathleen) Wonderly of Hicksville, and Jerry Wonderly of Hicksville, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Lewis (Donna) Wonderly of Hicksville, and Phillip (Sandy) Wonderly of Hicksville. He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 73 years, Betty; a son, David D. Wonderly; an infant daughter, Beth Ann Wonderly; three brothers, Kenneth Wonderly, Glen Wonderly, and Jim Wonderly; and three sisters, Leila Hook, Joyce Hart, and Rachel Fritz.
To honor Donal’s wishes, no visitation or services will be held at this time. The family will hold a private gathering at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home & Crematory, 706 Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio 43526.
