Donald G. Holzhause, age 72, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 1:11 A.M. on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical in Toledo, Ohio, after brief illness. Mr. Holzhause was a veteran of the United States Air Force and had been employed at Spangler Candy Company in Bryan, retiring as Vice President of Finance with thirty years of service. A man of many talents, Don enjoyed working in the dirt, planting flowers, gardening, and tending to the pond at Autumn Chase, where he was known as the “Pond Guy,” and was also an accomplished oil painter and woodworker. He enjoyed nature and animals, especially his beloved dog, Molly, who he lived for and was often called “Molly’s Dad.”
Donald G. Holzhause was born on June 5, 1945, in Greensburg, Indiana, the son of Charles and Bonnie (Allen) Holzhause. He married his wife of fifty-two years, Dorothy J. “Dottie” Powner, on July 17, 1965, in Lawrenceville, Illinois, and she survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Angella Renee Burklo, of Bryan; one son, Joseph Robert (Kristen) Holzhause, of Henderson, Nevada; three grandchildren, Benjamin Holzhause, Allie Beck, and Ethan Retcher; one brother, Robert Holzhause, of Batesville, Indiana; and one sister, Linda Howard, of Shelbyville, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Donald George Holzhause, II; and one sister, Barbara Craig.
Private family services will take place in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, with interment in Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan.
