Dorothy A. Smith, 89

Dorothy A. Smith, age 89, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 6:15 A.M. on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at Hillside Country Living, Bryan, Ohio, where she was a resident. Dorothy worked in the cafeteria for Bryan City Schools for 25 years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, baking and sewing.

Dorothy A. Smith was born on August 2, 1928, in Warrensburg, Illinois, the daughter of Herschell E. and Effie A. (Jordan) Morthland. She graduated from Warrensburg High School in 1946. Dorothy worked as a secretary at a local store until she married Rex J. Smith on January 16, 1952, in Warrensburg, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 18, 2014.

Survivors include one son, Marvin (Marilyn) Smith, of Bryan; three daughters, Marilyn (Richard) Hetrick, of Ney, Ohio, Marsha (Bruce Gordon) Smith, of North Bend, Washington, and Marie (Timothy) Miller, of Montpelier, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one brother, Derald (Joyce) Morthland of Arthur, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her father and step-mother, Herschell & Julia Morthland; mother and step-father, Effie & Ova Harbert; her husband; a brother, Wayne Morthland and a granddaughter, Colette Hetrick.

Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 25, 2018, with services following at 3:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, with Pastor Jeff Sheldon officiating. Interment will follow in Farmer Cemetery.

Memorials are requested to the Alzheimer’s Association or an organization of the donor’s choice.
