Dorothy M. Burns, 68 years of Bryan, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice, Defiance. Dorothy was born April 11, 1946, in Bryan, Ohio, the daughter of the late Denton and Eleanore (Shadel) Kuhn. Dorothy married William W. Burns on July 8, 1976 in Melvindale, Michigan, and he survives. Dorothy was employed in the hospitality industry as a waitress and cook. She also was employed in factory work and also provided Home Health Care for several families. Dorothy was a volunteer for Hospice for many years in the Hillsdale, Michigan area. She found enjoyment in dancing, singing, crocheting, knitting and cooking but was most fulfilled by the time she spent with her family. She was well known for making her lasagna.
Surviving is her husband, William of Bryan; four children, Donna Shiffler of Bryan, David (Angela) Shadel of Montpelier, Chuck (Violet) Grime of Angola, Indiana and Joe Grime of Bryan; 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; one brother, David Sumner of Oklahoma and one sister, Barbara Sumner of Gate City, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Brian Kuhn.
Visitation for Dorothy M. Burns will be held on Monday, December 8, 2014 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 9, 2014 in the funeral home with Pastor Fred Brandon officiating. Interment will be private.
