Dorothy Berneice Curtis, 100 years, of Bryan and a former resident of Fort Wayne, Fremont, Alvordton and West Unity, passed away at 11:33 p.m. Friday night at Hillside Country Living where she had been a resident. Dorothy was born January 16, 1913 in Markle, Indiana, the daughter of the late Alfred Francis and Margaret May (Burley) Dennis. She married Darwin Clark Curtis on June 29, 1935 in Yoder, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on September 10, 1986. Dorothy attended the West Unity United Methodist Church prior to her admission to Hillside Country Living. She enjoyed gardening and canning the produce from her garden and she also found joy in completing embroidery. She attended both the Montpelier Senior Center and the West Unity Senior Center. Dorothy and Darwin also enjoyed traveling across the United States.
She is survived by her two sisters, Marjorie Grover of Liberty Center, Indiana and Mary Murphy of Byhalia, Mississippi as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Darwin and one sister, Alfreda Mossburg who resided in Markle, Indiana.
Funeral services for Dorothy Berneice Curtis will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013 in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home – Greenisen Chapel, 225 East High Street, Bryan with Rev. Julia Ronngren officiating. Interment will follow in Shiffler Cemetery, rural Bryan. The family will receive relatives and friends two hours prior to the service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Thursday May 30, 2013, in the funeral home.
