Dorothy “Dottie” May (Cain) Golden, 92

Dorothy “Dottie” May (Cain) Golden was born April 21, 1926 in Mishawaka, Indiana to Herbert Cecil and Mabel (Sherer) Cain.

Dottie passed away Thursday afternoon at Fairlawn Haven Retirement Center, Archbold, Ohio.

She married Kenneth “Ken” E. Golden in Lima, Ohio. After attending Elida High School, she was employed at Lima Tank Depot during the last years of WWII. Her husband Ken died in August of 1996.

Dottie and her husband spent twelve years living in Dayton, Ohio area before moving to Angola, Indiana on Lake James.

In 1961 Dottie and Ken built and opened a restaurant on Lake James – The Golden Treat (now Club Paradise). They also built and opened Duds and Suds Laundry and Golden Cove Mobile Home Park, all at Lake James.

After selling their businesses in the early 1970s they traveled the U.S. and Internationally. They lived in Pine Island and Cape Coral, Florida in the winter and in the lake area near Angola in the summer.

Dottie holds the patent on the “Golden Child” soft sculptured dolls. Dottie continued doll designing until a few years before her death. She was also very involved in Fairlawn Haven Retirement Center helping to raise money for the center’s activities. She knitted and crocheted various handcrafted items.

Dottie was always a member of the Baptist faith. She belonged to Grace Baptist Church, Angola, IN.

She is survived by sons Danny (Cindy) Golden, Kenneth “Kenny” (Rita) Golden, daughter Holly Barton., eight grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, daughter Phyllis Walters, sons-in-law Thomas Walters and Richard Barton, brothers Howard and Richard Cain, sisters Florence Miller, Violet Houchin, Peggy Cain and Betty Reynolds.

Visitation hours will be held on Tuesday, October 16 from 2-3 pm at Fairlawn Haven Chapel in Archbold. A funeral service will follow at 3pm in the chapel with Pastor Dail Kern to officiate. A private interment will be held at Jamestown Cemetery in Jamestown Township, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be given to the Williams County Humane Society or Fairlawn Haven Activity Fund.
