Dorothy L. Myers, 83 years of Defiance, and a former lifelong resident of Sherwood, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at Defiance Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Defiance, Ohio. Dorothy was born June 21, 1939, in Pataskala, Ohio, the daughter of the late Watson R. and Fannie A. (Schubert) Peebles. Dorothy was a 1957 graduate of Hicksville High School, and she continued her education at the Maumee Valley Nursing School, graduating as a Registered Nurse. She married Calvin W. Myers on June 8, 1958, in Hicksville, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on August 18, 2018. Dorothy worked as a nurse at Paulding County Visiting Nurses, Community Memorial Hospital in Hicksville, Fountain Manor Nursing Home, Hicksville, Parkview Hospital, Parkview Hospice, Fort Wayne, Indiana and at Leisure Oaks Nursing Home, Defiance. She attended Sherwood United Methodist Church. Dorothy was a former member of the Red Hat Society and served in the Board of Directors of the Visiting Nurses Defiance County. Dorothy enjoyed quilting, gardening and tending to her flowers, creating Stamp-it cards and just being out with her friends.
Surviving is her daughter, Nancy Myers of Defiance; daughter-in-law, Melanie (Pat) Myers-Reckner of Delta; grandson, Jared (Ayla) Myers of Delta; great grandchildren, Louise, Wyatt and Jackson; two brothers, John Peebles of Midwest City, Oklahoma and Dave (Jean) Peebles of Nevada, Ohio; three sisters, Jane Stearns of Michigan, Ruth (Eugene) Ordway of Edgerton, Ohio and Mary Hamblin of Edgerton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Calvin; two sons, Doug Myers, and infant Jeffery Myers; grandson, Jeffrey Myers; one sister, infant Mildred Peebles.
Visitation for Dorothy L. Myers will be held Monday, August 29, 2022, from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville. Funeral services for Dorothy will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 30, 2022, in the funeral home with Pastor Boyd Shugart officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that those planning an expression of sympathy consider the Alzheimer’s Association and Related Disorders or Sherwood United Methodist Church.
