The Defiance County Sheriff’s Office announced on Friday, that they have received a new permanent drug disposal box, which is now available for residents to dispose of unneeded or unwanted prescription medications.
It’s located at the Defiance County Sheriff’s Office, just inside the lobby.
The box is a safe alternative to leaving medication unsecured or disposing of it in an unsafe manner.
It was obtained through a grant with the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators, and is accessible Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. If you can’t drop off medications during that time period, you can still leave them at the sheriff’s office 24 hours a day with a deputy, who can put the medications in the container.
While most types of medications are accepted, you’re reminded that liquids, syrups, needles, syringes, inhalants and test strips cannot be accepted.
All bottles will be destroyed, along with any personal identifying information on them.
