Duane K. Suffel, 81

Duane K. Suffel, age 81, of Edgerton, Ohio, passed away at 12:45 P.M. on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice near Defiance, Ohio, after a brief illness. Mr. Suffel was a 1957 graduate of Edgerton High School and throughout the years had owned and operated Busy Corner Grocery and was employed at Dick’s IGA and Hoenie’s SuperValu as a meat cutter and Lutterbein Lumber Company. He also had sold insurance for Farmer’s Insurance and later was employed at Walmart in Kendalville, Indiana, as the manager of the sporting goods department. In the community he had been active as a Boy Scout leader, was a lifelong member of the Edgerton Church of Christ, where he was active as a deacon, elder, and Sunday school teacher for many years, was a longtime member of the tree commission, and enjoyed giving drum lessons. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed collecting guns and could be seen around town riding his bike, normally up to ten miles a day.

Duane K. Suffel was born on April 7, 1937, in Edgerton, the son of Kenneth R. and Genevieve I. (Sleesman) Suffel. He married Susan L. Hopkins on June 9, 1957, in Edgerton and she survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his mother, Genevieve Suffel, of Edgerton; his children, Jeff (Cheryl) Suffel and Brent Suffel, both of Edgerton, Dawn Suffel, of Garner, North Carolina, and Craig (Marla) Suffel, of Auburn, Indiana; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill (Pat) Suffel and Donald (Delores) Suffel, both of Edgerton; and one sister, Diane Seslar, of Edgerton. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth, and a brother-in-law, Terry Seslar.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon in the Edgerton Church of Christ. Services will follow in the church, beginning at 12:00 noon, with Pastor Jeff Brookins officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Edgerton.
