Duane W. Sorrell, 77

Duane W. Sorrell of Wauseon, Ohio passed away February 15, 2018 at Ebeid Hospice Residence in the presence of his loving family.

Duane was born to Lindsey and Ruth (née Zoeller) Sorrell in New Castle, Indiana on September 27, 1940. He was the youngest of three children. Duane graduated from Lincoln High School in Cambridge City, IN. After High School, Duane graduated from Elkhart University as a medical technologist. Duane’s three children are from his first marriage to June Lord Sorrell. Duane entered the US Army where he served as a medic for 2 years. After his service, Duane worked at both Parkview Hospital and Flower Hospital which is where he met his beloved wife, Dorothy. Duane and Dorothy were married on August 9, 1980. He later retired from Flower Hospital after 37 years.

Duane brought light and love to every situation. His deep faith in God guided him through life. Some of his hobbies included working in his wood shop, riding his John Deer tractor, shooting targets, traveling, solving crossword puzzles, collecting vintage signs, and eating every pie you could think of. His catch phrase “I like pie” will live on with his family.

Duane is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Carolyn, and his grandson Joshua. Duane leaves behind his wife Dorothy; his sister Dolores; children Robert (Beth) Sorrell, Bradley (Kerri) Sorrell, and Jennifer (Todd) Kunkel; and his grandchildren Nicholas, Sarah, Jessica, Rachel, and Megan.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 23120 US 6, Stryker, Ohio 43557 with Pastor Jeffrey Corder officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Friends will be received on Monday, February 19, 2018 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home, 219 S. Fulton St., Wauseon, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. John Lutheran Church, the Cherry Street Mission, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
