Edward C. Davenport, 70, of Edon passed away early Saturday morning at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born on September 9, 1944 in Toledo, Ohio to John L. and Virginia R. (Cole) Davenport. Edward graduated from Montpelier High School in 1963. On January 31, 1965 he married Patricia A. Culbertson at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Montpeleir and she survives.
In 2005 Edward retired from Simpson Industries / Metaldyne in Edon after 11 years. He was a supervisor at Mohawk Tool in Montpelier for 29 years and worked at ARO Corp. in Bryan for 2 years. Edward was a member of the Montpelier Masonic Lodge #547, the Montpelier Moose and Montpelier Eagles. He was a coach for the Mohawk Little League baseball team, golfed on the Moose and Metaldyne golf leagues, bowled three nights a week and loved to square dance. Edward enjoyed fishing, he went salmon fishing every year for 25 years, always canning his catch. He loved to farm and spent his summers camping at Huycks Lake, and moved to Collins Lake 2 years ago.
He is survived by his wife Patricia; one daughter Stephanie (Chad) Miller of Bryan; one son Shane Davenport of Hamilton, Indiana; six grandchildren, Zachary H. Richter of Hicksville, Ohio, Jessica Davenport of Kokomo, Indiana, Austin Davenport of Angola, Indiana, Shayla Flynn of Bryan, Brittaney Ewing of Hamilton, Indiana and Eathon Miller of Edgerton; one brother Larry (Carolyn) Davenport of Foley, Alabama; and one brother-in-law James (Lavonne) Baker of Pahrump, Nevada.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation for Edward will be on Tuesday, May 19th from 4-8 pm at the Thompson-Geesey Funeral Home on Empire Street in Montpelier. There will be a Masonic Service at 7:30pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. Services will be on Wednesday at 11am at the funeral home with Pastor Paul Collins, Sr. to officiate. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier. Memorial contributions may be made to Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
