Edwin L. “Ed” Appel, 68

Edwin L. “Ed” Appel, 68, of Hicksville, Ohio passed away Friday, September 13, 2024, at Parkview Hospital Randallia, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Ed was born October 31, 1955, in Bryan, Ohio, son of the late Deloy and Mary (Mitchell) Appel. Ed graduated from Fairview High School in 1973 and continued his education through ITT Tech, Fort Wayne, Indiana. On June 17, 1978, Ed would marry Patricia (Parrott) and they would go on to have three children: Sean, Brent, and Jeffrey. Ed worked in the maintenance department at Titan Tire (General Tire) and retired from there after 35 years. Ed loved spending time outside and could generally be found farming (preferring IH tractors to those green ones) or mowing the lawn. Above all else, Ed loved his family and grandchildren who lovingly called him “Grandpa Ed” or “Papi Ed”. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving are his three sons, Sean (Trish) Appel of Auburn, Indiana, Brent (Christy) Appel of Farmer, Ohio, and Jeffrey (Brooke) Appel of Hicksville, Ohio; four grandchildren, William, Adaline, Maggie and Amelia; two siblings, Kevin (Julie) Appel of Hicksville, Ohio, and Sandy (TJ) McClure of Hamilton, Michigan.

Visitation for Ed will be held Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 1:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 N. Lynn Street, Bryan. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 23, 2024, beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Chris Stull officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Farmer Cemetery.
