Eldean R. Shaffer, age 80, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2014,surrounded by her loved ones at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Bryan. She was born on August 3, 1934, in DeKalb County, Indiana, the daughter of Roscoe and Doris (Rose) Platt. Eldean was a 1952 graduate of Montpelier High School, where she was crowned Homecoming Queen. She married Jack N. Shaffer, the love of her life, on May 16, 1953 in Angola, Indiana.
Eldean worked as a Pediatric Nurse at the Bryan Medical Group for 26 years and had previously worked at the Montpelier Hospital. In her retirement, children continued to be at the center of her life as she doted on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed collecting glass and porcelain and rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes and Detroit Tigers.
Eldean is also survived by her husband, Jack N. Shaffer, in Bryan; three children, Kim (Beth) Shaffer, of Montpelier, Sue (Keith) Engstrom, of Bryan and Brian Shaffer, of Edon; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Shaffer, of Fort Myers, Florida, Jason (Kristin) Shaffer, of Hicksville, Nicole (Michael) Emmons, of Newark, Delaware, Chad (Cecie) Shuck, of Kendallville, Mitch (Kari) Shuck, of Bryan, Cody Shaffer, of Auburn and Zach Shaffer, of Edon; three step grandchildren, Tyson Engstrom, of Bryan, Kasey Sanders, of Montpelier and Becky Bleikamp, of Edgerton; ten great grandchildren, Preston and Abigail Emmons, Bryant Walter-Shuck, Lillian Shuck, Ashlee, Drew, Conner and Nicholas Engstrom, Kiah Sanders and Savannah Balogh and her sister, Verona (Leon) DeGroff, of West Unity. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Phyllis Platt.
A gathering for friends and family celebrating the life of Eldean R. Shaffer will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Private burial will take place at Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan at a later date.
