Ellen I. Scantlen, age 77, of Bryan, Ohio, and formerly a longtime resident of Defiance County, died at 11:10 P.M. on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Bryan after a brief illness. Ellen worked as a nurse’s aide at the Defiance County Nursing Home, retiring with over twenty-five years of service. She enjoyed traveling and camping.
Ellen I. Scantlen was born on April 17, 1938, in Paulding, Ohio, the daughter of Lester and Gertrude (Font) Grimes. She married George J. “Jim” Scantlen on January 28, 1961, in Defiance, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on July 26, 2007.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Scantlen, of Bryan, Terri (Brian) Chittenden, of Farmer, Ohio, and Sandy Scantlen, of Bryan; one son, Jeff (Loria) Scantlen, of Hicksville, Ohio; five grandchildren, Christina Scantlen, Kate Chittenden, Eric Scantlen, Lorin Scantlen and Ethan Scantlen; one great-grandchild, Aiden Heisler; and two brothers, Edward and Eugene Grimes. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Ned Grimes.
Visitation for Ellen I. Scantlen will be held on Friday, July 17, 2015, from 5:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. There will be no services and interment will be private.
Memorials in the name of Ellen I. Scantlen may be made to the Defiance County Ag Society.
