Esther L. Oyer, age 96, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2017 at Fairlawn Retirement Community, where she had resided for nearly five years. She was born on November 16, 1920 in Wauseon, Ohio to Amiel and Mindy (Goldsmith) Waldfogel. She married Richard L. Oyer in 1948 and he preceded her in death.
Esther served as deputy treasurer in the Fulton County Treasurer’s Office, retiring in 1986. She was a lifelong member of the Wauseon Evangelical Mennonite Church, now Crossroads Evangelical Church.
Surviving are daughter Susan Batdorf and son Douglas L. Oyer (Joyce), grandchildren Jeremy Oyer (Melissa), Stacia Radabaugh, Tyson Batdorf (Shana), Joshua Oyer (Ashley) and Joellyn Quinones (Jesse), eleven great-grandchildren, three brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Esther was preceded in death by grandson Jonathan Oyer and son-in-law Richard Batdorf.
Services will be held on Saturday September 30 at 11:00am in the chapel at Fairlawn Nursing Home on Lutz Road in Archbold, Ohio. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Burial will be in the Wauseon Union Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Northwest Ohio or Southerncare Hospice Services of Toledo, Ohio.
