Eugenia (Jean) Fassold, 98, of Oregon, Ohio, formally of Toledo and Fayette, passed from this life to her eternal home on May 10th, 2018. She was the daughter of Ray and Florence (Leu) Hochstetler in Fayette, Ohio. She was a bookkeeper most of her working career at several companies including Gladieux Corporation for 13 years and the Clerk of Courts Office for the City of Toledo for 7 years. She was then employed in the Treasurer’s Office for Adams Packing in Lakeland, Florida, retiring in 1985 and returning to Toledo. In the years following, she enjoyed traveling in the US and Canada. She began volunteering for Heartland Hospice in 2004. She worked in the office performing various clerical assignments and started making lap quilts for hospice patients at home. After leaving the office assignments behind, she continued making lap quilts for the end of life patients at Hospice and other nursing home patients at other facilities. She acquired the nickname “The Quilt Lady”. She designed and made over 1000 lap quilts over the years, giving each one along with a handmade card to a patient.
She leaves behind her daughters, Jeanie Miller (Ray), Lois Fry (Larry), Lynn Harter (Donald), and a son, Charles Fassold (Darlene). 2 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
There will be a time of viewing and visitation with the family from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 15th, 2018 in Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home, 219 South Fultion Street, Wauseon, Ohio 43567 with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Pastor Joanie Schilling will officiate. Interment will follow in Pettisville Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Orchard Villa and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the care and kindness shown to Eugenia. A special thanks to Pastor Joanie Schilling, Penny Miklovic, and the kind ladies at Maumee United Methodist Church who made her a part of their family. They showed their love and kindness and kept her busy in her final years, working on quilting.
