Evelyn Zehring, 96

Evelyn W. Zehring, 96 years, of Defiance, and formerly of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Glenn Park of Defiance.  Evelyn was born September 2, 1917 in Elkhart, Indiana, the daughter of the late George and Winifred (Nelson) Allen.  She was a graduate of Wauseon High School.  She then attended Fredrick’s Beauty College in Lima, Ohio.  She had worked at Marguerite’s Beauty Shop in Defiance for a brief period of time.  Evelyn was a devoted homemaker who took great pride in caring for her family.  She was a member of the Sherwood United Methodist Church, Sherwood, and a former member of the Pasadena Community Church, St. Petersburg, Florida for 20 years. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.  Evelyn formerly wrote a poetry column that was published in the Farmland News.  She also enjoyed painting with oils.

Surviving are her three children, Marilyn (Earl) Spiess of Liberty Center, Ohio, Harry J. Head of Louisville, Kentucky and Dennis Head of Webster, Indiana; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Bok, one grandson, Daniel Head and two husbands, Harold Head and Clarence Zehring.

Funeral services for Evelyn W. Zehring will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Sherwood United Methodist Church, 512 North Harrison Street, Sherwood with Pastor Kevin Doseck officiating.  Interment will follow in Sherwood Cemetery.  Visitation for Evelyn will be held two hours prior to the service on Saturday at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m.  Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood.
