F. Dean Baker, 95

Dean Baker, of Hamilton, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2024, at his home with his family by his side. He was 95. Dean was born April 15, 1929, in Waterloo, Indiana, the son of the late Virgil and Artie Fay (Beard) Baker. He was a 1947 graduate of Hamilton High School. Dean was a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Korean Conflict. He married Anna Mae Oberlin on April 16, 1949, in Madaryville, Indiana. Dean was a well-known barber, cutting hair at Lakeland Barber Shop in Angola (as well as a shop in his home in Hamilton to accommodate the locals) for 45 years. He was also a Realtor with Dale Nickols Realty for 15 years. He was a member of the Hamilton United Methodist Church, Hamilton Masonic Lodge, and the Hamilton American Legion Post 467. In his leisure time, Dean loved to play golf.  During his lifetime, he had 3 holes in one.  He also enjoyed gardening, traveling, driving his golf cart around town and meeting his buddies at 4 Corners to tell stories and talk about the latest news.  He had a jovial laugh and always a joke to tell.  He was also a huge IU and Bobby Knight fan.  Most of all he loved spending time with his family.

Surviving are his wife of 75 years, Anna Mae; three children, Denise (Mike) Hostetler of Fort Wayne, Dennis Dean Baker of Huntertown, and Tom (Shelly) Baker of Hamilton; four grandchildren, Kelley (Richie) Flores, Matthew (Kelsey) Hostetler, Jessica (Tim) Elkins and Joshua Baker; three great-grandchildren, Finley and Mia Flores and Max Elkins; and one brother, Larry  Baker of Auburn.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Keith, Van and Max and six sisters, Betty, Ruth, June, Mary, Sue and Mildred.

A Celebration of Life for F. Dean Baker will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 23, 2024 in the Hamilton United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jack Smith and Pastor Jerry Burghduff officiating. Masonic services will also be conducted as part of the service.  Military Honors will be conducted by Hamilton American Legion Post 467 at the conclusion of the service.  The family will receive relatives and friends two hours prior to the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Friday. Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, Hamilton.
