In Van Wert County, one is dead after driving off the road and hitting a utility pole, in York Township. In a release from the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office, officers were dispatched to the Mendon Road crash after receiving calls from other drivers in the area. When they arrive on the scene, they found the non-responsive man in a vehicle, off the roadway. The post-crash investigation reveals the car eft the roadway, striking the pole. The driver, Everett Thatcher, 88 of Convoy, Ohio was pronounced dead at the scene. State and local officials are working together in the case.
