Fire In Edgerton!

A fire Wednesday morning in Edgerton that damaged a home on Ohio 49 could have been much worse.

It was a passerby who saw flames, and stopped to honk his car horn to wake up the people inside.

According to the Edgerton Fire Department, crews responded at 5:23 a.m., to 03424 Ohio 49, just south of the Williams-Defiance county line.

The blaze is believed to have been started by a wood burner. Fortunately, due to the quick thinking of the passerby and the homeowner, the house is still livable, but damage, pending the arrival of the insurance adjustor, is probably in the range of $10,000 or so. The roof and some of the trusses were destroyed.

Nobody was hurt, and the Edgerton Fire Department was wrapped up there by a little after 7:30 yesterday morning.
