Fred Morrison, 87

Frederick M. “Fred” Morrison, 87 years, of Auburn, Indiana and a former life-long resident of Sherwood, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Smith Farms Manor, Auburn, Indiana, where he was a resident.  Fred was born August 14, 1926 in Seminary, Kentucky, the son of the late Thomas and Mary Belle (Guthrie) Morrison.  Fred was a WWII Army veteran.  He married Ruby P. DeRossett on August 8, 1948 in Albany, Kentucky, and she survives.  Fred was employed by the State of Ohio Highway Patrol, Defiance Post, as a Motor Vehicle Inspector working for over 20 years, retiring in 1992.  Fred was one of the first Motor Vehicle Inspectors hired by the State of Ohio.  He was a member of the Sherwood United Methodist Church as well as a long-time member of the Sherwood Fire Department.  Fred enjoyed fishing, going to his children and grandchildren’s sporting events and watching baseball on television.

In addition to his wife Ruby, Fred is survived by four sons, John (Kathy) Morrison of Fremont, Ohio, Larry (Diana) Morrison of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Doug (Connie) Morrison of Montpelier and Tim (Sandy) Morrison of Merrill, Michigan; nine grandchildren and one brother, J.E. Morrison of Albany, Kentucky.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Lolan, Dee and Edgar Morrison and one sister, Mabel Oates.

Visitation for Fred M. Morrison will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014 with Pastor Kevin Doseck officiating.  Interment will follow in Sherwood Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Sherwood VFW Post 5665.
