Gerald E. Hinsch, 89

Gerald Hinsch, 89, of Hicksville, Ohio received his wings on, February 17, 2023, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance, Ohio, surrounded by his family. Gerald was born December 3, 1933, Hicksville, Ohio, son of the late Russell L. and Doris M. (Sleesman) Hinsch. He was a 1951 graduate of Hicksville High School. Gerald served in the United States Army from July 13, 1954, until his honorable discharge on May 25, 1956. During his service, he was stationed in Munich Germany. He married Shirley Marie Savage on September 25, 1954, and she preceded him in death on February 19, 2017. Gerald was a Purchasing Agent at International Harvester, Fort Wayne, Indiana for 34 years, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed wintering in Bushnell, Florida with his wife, Shirley. Gerald was an avid Detroit Tigers, Green Bay Packers, and Ohio State Buckeyes fan. Gerald loved sports and enjoyed being an assistant coach for little league baseball for the Hicksville Baseball Association. He was a member of the Hicksville Athletic Boosters and was a member of the Hicksville Football Chain Gang. Gerald was also a member of the First Church of Christ, Hicksville where he served as a deacon. Above all, Gerald enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and community members. He loved his family, and they knew him as a loving dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and a great manager of money.

Surviving are his two children, Mike (Teresa) Hinsch of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Linda (Darrin) Yoder of Elkhart, Indiana; four grandchildren, Kiley Hinsch, Baylee (Steven) Burr, Hailee Weber, and Hunter Weber; one great-grandson, Anderson “King Andy” Burr. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley Hinsch; son, Danny Hinsch; two grandchildren, Stacy Weber, and Sammy Hinsch; three sisters, Vyrle Yontz, Bobbie Zimmerman, and Ila Hutchins; brother, Russell Hinsch, Jr.

A Private Family Celebration of Life will be held at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio with Kermit Riehle officiating. Interment will be made in Forrest Home Cemetery, Hicksville, with Military Rites accorded by combine detail, Hicksville American Legion, Farmer American Legion, and Sherwood VFW.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to Community Health Professional Inpatient Hospice Center or Fort Defiance Humane Society.
