Grace Cecilia Mary Cordell Moughler, 89

Grace Cecilia Mary Cordell Moughler, age 89, of rural Montpelier, Ohio passed into heaven October 20, 2022 surrounded by loving family.  Upon her passing the sky lit up with a beautiful pastel sunset.

Grace was born April 2, 1933 in Watertown, South Dakota to Nicholas John Cordell and Alice Rebecca (Jorgensen) Cordell.

Grace attended school in Watertown, South Dakota and completed her diploma at Saint Francis Academy, Joliet, Illinois where she also studied Catholic Theology.

Grace was married to Clark Moughler on July 14, 1969 in Marysville, Tennessee and he survives in rural Montpelier, Ohio.

Also surviving are children, Dana (Jon) Ruetz of Bryan, Ohio; Carol (Randy) Church of Hamilton, Indiana; John (Karin) Moughler of Franklin, Tennessee; and Bruce Moughler of Urbana, Ohio.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Joy Jean (Petre) Krontz which was a huge sorrow.  Daughters that joined the family with husband Clark are Pam (Tom) Chaffin of Sweetser, Indiana and Karen (Scott) Jones of Columbia City, Indiana.

There are 13 surviving grandchildren, 25 surviving great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Grace was one of ten Cordell children. Predeceasing were Nicholas Charles (WWII), Leo Peter, Mary Teresa, Helen Matilda, Alice Irene, Roman John and Joseph David.

Surviving and dearly loved siblings are Vernon Joseph of Waubay, South Dakota and Margaret Mary (Cordell) Andersen of Mitchell, South Dakota.

She worked primarily in nursing care and was honored to earn a QMA and care for the elderly.  She also worked in accounting in her early years.

Her main focus in life was to love her children and husband. She was an amazing gardener who loved flowers.

Her cooking was beyond compare and her lemon meringue pie was legendary and will never be matched. She sewed her daughter’s wedding dress of silk and lace.

In her childhood she was gifted with working with horses and loved painting.  She cared for her younger siblings with love beyond her years.

Grace and Clark restored an old farmhouse with lots of hard work and teamwork. Countless family dinners and gatherings thru the years held there were a labor of love for her.

She could tell stories and recite poetry and pages of the bible from memory.  Her love for God was vast and she shared that with her children and grandchildren.

Her life took her through many rough times and she faced them all with courage earning the nickname of “Amazing Gracie” from Clark in later years. Truly she was.

Visitation for Grace will be Wednesday, October 26 from 10 a.m – 12 p.m. at Krill Funeral Home in Bryan, Ohio with the funeral following thereafter at noon. Pastor Sam Byroads will officiate.

Burial will be at Brown Cemetery west of Bryan, Ohio.
