Gregorio J. Vela, age 72, of Wauseon passed away Sunday August 31, 2014 at Whitehouse Country Manor following an extended illness. Prior to his retirement he had worked for Koncor Industries in Wauseon.
Mr. Vela was born in Hondo, TX on March 12, 1942 the son of the late Jose and the late Angela (Rodriquez) Vela. On April 6, 1991 he married Nancy Andrew and she survives. He was a member of the St. Caspar Catholic Church, the Wauseon VFW and was Past State Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for 2001-2002 and a VFW National Council member in 2004-2005. He was a US Marine veteran of the Vietnam War.
Surviving besides his wife Nancy are sons; Gregory David (Lynn) Vela of Napoleon, Oscar Lee (Theresa) Vela of Arlington, VA, step-children; Wesley Secondcost of Napoleon, Dana Steele of Texas, Ohio, four grandchildren; Gabriel, Mikhaela, Braylon and Greyson and three step-grandchildren; Sara Secondcost, and Brandon and Austin Steele. Also surviving is sister; Maria Garcia of, Okemos, MI. Preceding him in death besides his parents were siblings; Juan (Carmen) Vela, Concha (Salvador) Ramos, Anna (Robert) DeLeon, Juventina (Marcelino) Correa and Odelia Vela.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Thursday September 4, 2014 at the Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon. Interment will follow in the St. Caspar Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00pm where there will be a VFW service at 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to either the VFW National Home for Children, the Fulton County Red Cross or the Wauseon Fire and Rescue Department.
