Hannah R. Cullis, 93 years, of Bryan, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Hillside Country Living, Bryan. Mrs. Cullis was born September 20, 1921 in Sterling County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Jay C and Maude Adelle (Hampton) Roller. When she was two years old, the family moved to Scotch Ridge, near Bowling Green, Ohio. She was a 1939 graduate of Webster Township High School. Hannah then attended Bowling Green State University and graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Hannah married Ford Miller Cullis on June 26, 1948 at Scotch Ridge Presbyterian Church, Wood County, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on August 14, 2008. Hannah was a teacher, teaching fourth grade at Park Elementary School in Bryan, Bryan Middle School, teaching English and Social Studies and ending her career teaching fifth grade at North Central Schools. She was part owner of The Bryan Publishing Company. Hannah was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Taine Club, Literary Forum and the Williams County Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed spending time at Clear Lake, reading, working on cross stitch and being a loving grandma. In her younger years, Hannah and Ford traveled extensively. She was a strong believer in education and was very good at oral reading with emotion and inflection.
Surviving are her three sons, Cass, and his wife Janie Cullis of Troy, Ohio, David and his wife, Patricia Rodgers of Wooster, Ohio and Christopher and his wife Elizabeth Cobb Cullis of Bryan; four grandchildren, Jay Ford Cullis and his wife Katy Watson of Covington, Ohio, Patrick Cullis and his companion, Shondia Houtzer of Boulder, Colorado, Christopher Cullis and his companion Sarah Hahn of West Unity and Kimberly (Michael) Imm of Edgerton; four great-grandchildren, Cassandra M. Cullis, Christopher and Ace Imm and Opal Jean Cullis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ford, 11 siblings, Zelma Henderson, Bernice Lunderman, Paul Roller, Hampton Roller, Ellen Roller, Howard Roller, Mary V. Eberhart, Joan Enright, Maude Fahle, Irene Lidel and infant Elizabeth Roller.
Visitation for Hannah R. Cullis will be held Sunday, January 18, 2015 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan. Funeral services for Hannah will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2015 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 903 Center Street, Bryan with Rev. Jeffrey Motter, officiating. Interment will follow in Shiffler Cemetery, Bryan. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
