Hattie May Kuckuck, 88

Hattie May Kuckuck, age 88, of Edon, Ohio, passed away at 12:18 A.M. on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice near Defiance, Ohio, after an extended illness. The oldest of sixteen children, Hattie May was born on September 12, 1928, in Clinton County, Kentucky, the daughter of Louis Taylor and Bertha Ellen (Lowe) Guffey. She moved to Ohio, where Russell Kuckuck introduced her to his single brother and her future husband, Lloyd W. Kuckuck. They where married on April 25, 1953, in Angola, Indiana, and lived their entire married life in Edon, where they raised their seven children. Early on they had a chicken farm and later switched to dairy cattle and grain farming. Lloyd passed away on April 9, 1980, and since then Hattie has kept busy quilting in the winter and tending to her large garden in the summer. She enjoyed canning tomatoes, red beets and green beans and had a love for Christmas cactus.

Hattie is survived by her seven children, Carol (Deon “Butch”) Groff, of Bryan, Ohio, Bill (Ellen) Kuckuck, of Defiance, Ohio, Darlene (Jaycee) Riley, of West Unity, Ohio, Dorothy “Dottie” (Ron) Thompson, of Bryan, Maryann (Phil) Johnston, of Montpelier, Ohio, Shirley (David) Harris, of Carmel, Indiana, and Ronald (Chris) Kuckuck, of Montpelier; forty-four grandchildren; forty-eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Junior, Donald and Hershel Guffey; and four sisters, Beverly Cash, Cora Garland, Martha Brumley and Lucy Perdue. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Robert, John and Joe Guffey; and four sisters, Helen, Gladis, Ora and Fannie Guffey.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 28, 2016, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the Krill Funeral Home, 204 West Indiana Street, Edon. Services will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, with Pastor Dean Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Edon Cemetery.
