Hayworth “Skip” Treace, Sr.,73, of Montpelier, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016. He was born on May 21, 1943 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Robert C. and Alice E. (Bell) Treace, Sr. On September 12, 1991 he married Elva Jo L. Gilcher in Montpelier and she survives.
Skip retired in 2008 from the Norfolk Southern Railroad, formerly N&W Railroad, as a rotary dump truck machine operator after 33 years. He was a member of West Unity Church of Christ and the Montpelier Eagles.
Skip is survived by his wife, Elva Jo Treace, of Montpelier; three sons, Chuck Treace, Sr., Ed Weitzel and Hayworth (Mendy) Treace, Jr. all of Montpelier; four daughters, Jen (Rob) Bartlett of Montpelier, Alice Treace (Jeff Wogoman) of Ashley, Indiana, Torri (Rodney) Hyser of Columbia City, Indiana and Heather L. Treace of Montpelier; nineteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Steven (Genny) Treace of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Amos (Ginny) Treace of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and special dog companion Two Eyes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Sebastian McConnell and an infant Katie Hyser; one infant sister; and two brothers Robert Treace and an infant brother, mother in-law Joann Gilcher, two brother-in-laws Donald Gilcher, Jr. and Frederick Laforet, Sr. and a nephew Frederick Laforet, Jr.
A time to receive family and friends will be on Friday, July 8, 2016 from 4-6 pm at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. A memorial service will take place immediately following the visitation at 6pm at the funeral home with Evangelist Bruce Goosman to officiate. A private graveside service will be held at Shiffler Cemetery in rural Bryan. Memorial donations may be made in Skip’s memory to West Unity Church of Christ or the Williams County Senior Center or CHP-Hospice.
