Those turning 65 years old this year, have only until Monday, June 1 to apply for the Ohio homestead exemption reduction. In addition, if you are a new applicant, who owns or occupies a home, and will turn 65 in 2015, or if you become permanantly disabled, you will be subject to an income test to verify your qualification for the program. The Bryan Times reports that those who wish to apply and did not qualify for the exemption in 2014 must have a total income less than $31,000, and “Total income” is defined as the adjusted gross income for Ohio income tax purposes of the owner and owner’s spouse for the year preceding the previous year. For more information about qualifications, or to obtain an application, visit the Williams County Auditor’s Office on the second floor of the Williams County Courthouse or call 419–636-5639. Applications can also be downloaded from the auditor’s website, www.co.williams.oh.us/auditor.
