Hugh M. Lindsey, 82 years, of Bryan, passed away Friday, November 29, 2013 at the University of Toledo Medical Center. Hugh was born September 10, 1931, the son of the late Hugh Ames and Audrey Elizabeth (Makley) Lindsey. He was a 1949 graduate of Bryan High School, called “the 49ers”, where he served as Class President his Junior and Senior Years. He loved sports and played both basketball and football for the Bryan High School team. Hugh continued his education earning degrees at Kettering University and The Ohio State University, and his MBA from the University of Toledo. Hugh also served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Hugh married Beverly Eileen Baldwin on March 25, 1955 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Hugh worked with his dad operating Lindsey Motor Sales, and later managed Lindsey-Jones Auto Dealership. He was also a Professor, teaching at Bowling Green State University, Defiance College, Indiana University-Purdue University in Fort Wayne as well Bluffton University. He is a member of New Hope Community Church, Bryan, and has been a member of the Bryan VFW Post 2489, the Bryan American Legion Post 284, the Rotary Club and Bryan Chamber of Commerce. Hugh was heavily involved in Missionary work and served as a Missionary in the Eastern European Countries with Underground Evangelism. He was a licensed pilot and owned his own plane. Hugh, along with Jack Shockley were involved in the formation of the Williams County Airport. Hugh was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, but what mattered most to him was his faith in God and his belief in the salvation offered through Jesus Christ.
Surviving is his wife, Beverly of Bryan; three children, Pamela E. (Glen) Turner of Goodyear, Arizona, Dr. Hugh J. (Barbara Wirtz) Lindsey of East Lansing, Michigan and Lt. Matthew C. Lindsay USN of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two grandchildren, Alex and Megan Lindsey; three siblings, Gloria Crandall of Bryan, John (Diane) Lindsey of Newark, Ohio and Kristine Lowe of Bryan as well as his cat, Smokey and dog, Princess.
A Celebration of Life service for Hugh M. Lindsey will be held at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at New Hope Community Church, 15627 US Highway 127 EW, Bryan with Pastor David Nicholls officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service on Tuesday at New Hope Community Church, beginning at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be made in Shiffler Cemetery, Bryan. Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan.
In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Bryan Area Foundation, the New Hope Community Church Missionary Fund or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
