While Ohio Gov. John Kasich has vetoed the so-called “heartbeat bill,” separate legislation is still alive that would legalize the installation of safety incubators, commonly known as “baby boxes.” The amendment legalizing “baby boxes” is included in Senate Bill 332, the so-called “infant mortality bill,” that has passed both the Ohio Senate and House and is awaiting action by Kasich. It was not part of House Bill 493, the so-called “heartbeat bill,” as was erroneously reported by The Bryan Times Dec. 10.
