Interstate Crash Caused By Elderly Driver’s Decision To Make A U-Turn

Two vehicles crashed Sunday afternoon on I-69 near Auburn.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriffs Department, the accident happened just before 5:00pm when a car driven by 75-year-old Rena French of Fort Wayne tried to make an illegal U-turn into northbound traffic just south of the 326 exit. Apparently, French came to a complete stop in the left southbound lane as she waited for traffic to clear on the northbound side. 23-year-old Bradley Fouch of Dewitt, Michigan slammed into the back of French’s car.

Both drivers were treated at the scene for minor injuries, but I-69 was shut down for about a half hour while the mess was cleaned up. No word yet on what, if any, charges are being filed.
