The Williams County Humane Society is taking in cats at a rate of about 100 per month, much higher than the normal average. Fortunately, there have also been a record high number of adoptions. Currently, 20 cats are living at the shelter with about 20 kittens in foster care. The high-volume crisis of sorts began when the Fort Defiance Humane Society announced it would no longer be accepting cats. That, coupled with a Fulton County operation that is still getting up and running, created a bottleneck at the height of cat-breeding season.
