Ivan L. Van Horn, 74

Ivan L. Van Horn, 74, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away Monday, February 27, 2023, at Vancrest of Hicksville after a brief illness.  Ivan was born September 25, 1948, in Hicksville, Ohio, son of the late LeRoy and Virginia (Draper) Van Horn.  He was a 1967 graduate of Hicksville High School.  Ivan served in the United States Air Force from April 1968, until his honorable discharge in April 1972.  Ivan worked as police officer with the Hicksville Police Department, and as a deputy with the Defiance County Sheriff’s Department.  He also served on the Hicksville Volunteer Fire Department for many years.  Ivan retired from CK Products in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 2009.  Over the years, Ivan enjoyed raising horses, woodworking, riding his motorcycle, smoking his pipe, watching Westerns and rooting on The Ohio State Buckeyes.

Ivan is survived by his son, Jeremy (Kelly) Van Horn of Hicksville; two grandchildren, Vincent Van Horn and Vaida Van Horn, both of Hicksville; two siblings, Beverly (Lyle) Kaiser of Hicksville and Warren (Terri) Van Horn of Villa Hills, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.  Ivan was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Jason Scott Van Horn.

Visitation for Ivan L. Van Horn will be held Thursday, March 2, 2023, from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 Noon at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville.  Funeral services will immediately follow in the funeral home beginning at 12:00 Noon, with Chaplain Dale Katcher officiating.  Interment will follow in Farmer Cemetery, Farmer, Ohio, with Military Rites accorded by the combined honor detail from the Hicksville American Legion Post 223, Farmer American Legion Post 137, and Sherwood VFW Post 5665.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to ProMedica Hospice.
