Ivyl Carlin, 80

Ivyl Carlin, passed away peacefully on April 19th, 2018 at Bryan, OH at the age of 80. A Williams County resident her whole life, Ivyl was born on September 12th, 1937 in Stryker, OH to Albert and Lucille (Allison) Stamm. She graduated from Stryker High School in 1955 and married Gene K. Carlin her high school sweetheart, on February 11th, 1956. Ivyl was employed for General Telephone for 27 years, Springfield Village treasurer for 14 years and drove bus for Quadco for 13 years. She was active on the Williams County Fair Board for six years, AAL Branch # 6807 Recorder, and a charter member of the Stryker School Foundation. She was a former Stryker Music booster Secretary and a member of the Stryker Chamber of Commerce and also served as Secretary. Ivyl’s love for volunteering allowed her to deliver meals for the Stryker Dining Center, and served on the council before the local center opened. She assisted with hospice patients, bloodmobile drives, and attended First Lutheran Church where she participated in the Lutheran Altar Guild and choir.

She enjoyed traveling the world and spending the winter months at Fun-N-Sun in San Benito, Texas. While in Texas she volunteered with children through the Help One Student to Succeed (HOSTS) program and was active with the Red Hats Club.

Survivors include four daughters: Deb (Jeff) Payton – Angola, IN, Kelly (Rick) Shelton – Freetown, IN, Sandy Carlin – Germantown, MD, and Brenda (Tyler) Short – West Unity, OH. Nine grandchildren, Nicholas Carlin – Angola, IN, Justin Payton (Ally Roberts) – Ft. Wayne, IN, Zac (Rachel) Shelton – Columbus, IN, Kirby (John) Brooks – Bargersville, IN, Aaron Shelton – Columbus, IN, David (Haley) Bearden, Idaho Falls, ID, and Devon Bearden of Los Angeles, CA., Nolan Short – Stryker, OH and Natalie Short of West Unity, OH, Six great grandchildren. one brother-in-law Don Beck and sister in-laws, Beverly (Ed) Brown, Elaine (Don) Lethers of Defiance, and Connie (Rusty) Cramer – Stryker, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, father and mother in-law and one brother Garnet (Lois) Stamm, sisters Jan Beck, Carol (Ellsworth) Custer, and brother in-law, Harold (Tub) Carlin.

Visitation for Ivyl will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at the First Lutheran Church in Stryker. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, also at the church, with Pastor Tamara Wood, officiating. Interment will be in the Pettisville Cemetery.
