James L. Cole, 80, of Kunkle passed away Thursday evening at his home. He was born on November 11, 1938 in Jonesville, Michigan to Donald B. and Doris (Bell) Cole. James graduated from Jonesville High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. On July 13, 1963 he married Martha A. Schofield and she preceded him in death in 2016.
James graduated from North West State Community College. In 2003 he retired from Chase Brass in Holiday City after 38 years in the maintenance department. James was an avid reader, loved a good cup of coffee and enjoyed watching tv and playing video games.
He is survived by his four children, Donald (Crista) Cole of Weatherford, Texas, Melanie (John) Gibson of Van Buren Township, Michigan, Chandler T. Cole of Kunkle and Leslie J. Cole of Port Huron, Michigan; six grandchildren, three great grandchildren; and one brother Duane Cole of Reading, Michigan.
James was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 53 years Martha, son Glenn Cole, and two brothers Gene and David Cole.
Visitation for James will be on Monday, March 4th from 3-8pm at the Thompson Funeral Home in Pioneer. Services will be on Tuesday at 12pm at the funeral home with Pastor Ben Gladhill to officiate, military rites will be provided by the Pioneer Veterans. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
