Jerry L. “Dutch” Matthews, 57, of Edon passed away Thursday morning at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born on October 13, 1958 in Montpelier to Thomas B. and Doris E. (Chroninger) Matthews, Sr. Dutch graduated from Edon High School in 1977. On June 10, 1989 he married Lisa Jo Waldrop and she survives.
Dutch was a machinist at Metaldyne in Fremont, Indiana since 1998; prior to that he had worked at several other businesses in the area. Dutch enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and had recently started doing woodworking projects. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Jo; mother Doris E. Matthews of Edon; four sons, Jeremy (Trichelle) Matthews, GySgt, USMC (Ret.) of Bryan, Harley (Brittany) Gibson, III, of Burlington, Michigan, David J. (Amber) Gibson of Fremont, Indiana, and Brady M. Matthews of Edon, Ohio; one daughter, Nicole M. Mauk of Montpelier; ten grandchildren; four brothers, Jeff (Harriet) Matthews of Virginia, Kerry (Mary) Matthews of Washington, Eric (Crystal) Matthews of Pioneer, and Thomas (Alane) Matthews of Montpelier.
Dutch was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation for Dutch will be on Monday, March 28th from 4-8pm at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. Services will be on Tuesday at 11am at the funeral home with Reverend Wayne C. Berkesch to officiate. Interment will follow at Billingstown Cemetery in rural Edon. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to NW Township Auxiliary or Leukemia Research Foundation.
