Joan Randolph Kyre, 81, passed away February 20, 2014. A memorial service was held March 22 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Lubbock, TX. Inurnment will be at 11:00am, June 21 in the Chapel at Wauseon Union Cemetery. The inurnment service will be conducted by her cousin, the Rev. Mary Jo Bray, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Joan was born January 19, 1933, in Wauseon, OH, to Sara (Rufenacht) and Edgar Randolph owners of Randolph Furniture Store for many years. She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University where she met and married Korean War veteran Martin Kyre in 1955.
She taught grade school in Seattle and College Station. Joan was a talented and creative writer. She first wrote one-act plays and then screen plays. After moving to Lubbock, Joan started Communications Emporium which produced radio commercials. Later she was president of Magic Box, Inc. which manufactured physical therapy equipment.
Joan was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, the League of Women Voters, University Women’s Club, Ohio Wesleyan Alumni Association, several book clubs and screen writer’s groups. She has served as precinct chairman of the local Democratic Party. She was a founder and frequent president of the Dusty Days Investment Club and a director of the West Texas Chapter of BetterInvesting.
She is survived by her husband, Martin, a cousin, Richard Randolph of Henderson, NV, and his family; a brother-in-law, Theodore Kyre of Alden, NY, and his family; her “little sisters” Kay Pence Roth (Mrs. Rex Roth) of Wauseon and Marcia Pence Battaglia (Mrs. Anthony (Tony) Battaglia) of Rochester,MI; lifelong friends Mary Dickerson Frantz of Visalia, CA, and Diane Knapp Roth of Archbold, OH; and many other cousins and friends too numerous to list.
