John P. “Mack” McDermott, age 74, of West Unity passed away late Thursday March 10, 2016 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. Prior to his retirement he had worked for Windsor Stamping and served 20 years, 1960-1980 in the US Navy.
Mr. McDermott was born on June 22, 1941 in Wauseon, Ohio the son of the late Howard “Serb” and the late Dorothy (Arnold) McDermott. He married wife Bernice “Jean” Sines and she preceded him in death.
Surviving are three children; Mark (Paula) Hart of Essex, England, Josette (McDermott) Klaege of Wauseon and Jaret (Kelly) McDermott of Wauseon,Step Children; Nicholas (Sharon) Dan of Westerville, Ohio. Lori (Dewayne) Southward of Reading, MI. Carrie Ohlinger of Napoleon, Ohio and Chris (Brenda) Ohlinger of Berkey, Ohio. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, sisters; Bonnie (John) Buchhop, Cherri (John) Wolfe of Windham, Ohio, Marilyn (Gene) Desrosiers of California and brother Joe (Shirley) McDermott of Buckeye, AZ. Preceding him in death were his parents and wife “Jean”.
A memorial service will be held 11:00am Friday March 18, 2016 at the Crossroads Evangelical Church in Wauseon with Pastor Matt Boyers officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday at the church from 6:00-8:00pm. The Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon has been entrusted with arrangements.
