Johnnie L. White, 82 of Merry Lake, in Camden, Michigan passed away Friday evening at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was born on May 10, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan to William T. and Irene (Bryles) White. Johnnie served his country in the US Air Force during peacetime from 1953-1961. On August 17, 1957 he married Marie E. Smith in Ecorse, Michigan and she survives.
Johnnie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montpelier. He retired from the Ford Motor Company in Wixom, Michigan in 1994 after 28 years of service. Johnnie was a long time Little League baseball coach in Garden City, Michigan. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, boating, playing cards and traveling with his wife.
Johnnie is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie; four sons, John (Nancy) White of Livonia, Michigan, Michael (Deborah) White of Rochester Hills, Michigan, Douglas E. White of Westland, Michigan, and David (Angela Shapardanis) White of Livonia, Michigan; six grandchildren, John M. White, Jessie Livingstone, Jacob White, Jeanette White, Jackie White and Tomania Shapardanis; and a brother James (Mary Ann) White of Livonia, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Bill and Douglas White and sister Betty Bridges.
A time to receive friends will be on Saturday, October 28th from 12-1pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montpelier with a mass to be held at 1pm with Father David Tscherne to officiate. Military rites will be held at the church by the Montpelier Veterans. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pioneer Senior Center or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
