Joy L. Meeks, age 89, of Edon, Ohio, died at 8:10 P.M. on Sunday, December 3, 2017, at the Laurels of DeKalb in Butler, Indiana, where she was a resident. Mrs. Meeks was a lifelong resident of Edon and had retired from General Motors in Defiance, Ohio, where she was a long time employee. She was a graduate of Edon High School and was an avid bowler, bowling in league for many years. Joy enjoyed reading the newspaper and visiting and spending time with friends and family, taking care of her beloved dog, “Topsy”; and her cats, “Kraus” and “Webster”. She also loved to go out and eat her favorite meal of steak and shrimp and always had some kind of collection of items such as chimes, dolls, and matchbook covers. She was outspoken and enjoyed a good conversation.
Joy L. Meeks was born on April 28, 1928, in Edon, the daughter of Glen and Florence (Shepard) Kunsman. She married Louis C. Koelker and he preceded her in death in 1980. She then married William Meeks, Jr. and he preceded her in death in 1984.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews and a long time close friend, Artie Karnes. She was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Charles, William “Bill”, John, and Ned Kunsman; and one sister, Amy Keller.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2017, from 1:00-3:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 204 West Indiana Street, Edon. A memorial service celebrating Joy’s life will follow at 3:00 P.M. in th Krill Funeral Home, Edon, with Pastor Doug Widdowson officiating. Interment will be in Edon Cemetery.
